ADULT & AGING SERVICES DIVISION

Adult Protective Services (APS)

APS provides assessment and response to reports of elder and dependent adult abuse and neglect. If an adult is determined to be in need of protective services, a social worker intervenes on behalf of the adult to resolve the problems that place the adult at-risk, provides needed supportive services, and, if necessary, places the adult out-of-home for protection.

General Assistance (GA)

GA benefits offers financial assistance and emergency homeless assistance to disabled or unemployed single adults. GA also provides SSI advocacy, employment services, and burial assistance.

In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS)

IHSS promotes and assists clients in remaining safely in their own homes. The program staff helps adults locate, hire, train, and supervise in-home care providers. Caregivers provide assistance with tasks the adults aren't able to perform themselves (e.g., bathe, dress, clean house, grocery shop, etc.)

Public Guardian (PG)/Public Administrator (PA)

The Deputy Public Guardian initiates the court process to invoke and renew conservatorship, handles the affairs of individuals who die without family to administer their estates, and provides case management for conserved people with mental disabilities or severe frailty.

Supportive Housing Program (SHP)

The SHP program provides assistance to eligible homeless families and individuals through coordinating case management, housing, substance abuse counseling and legal advocacy. SHP works closely with other local agencies, such as the Community Center, North Coast Opportunities, Ford Street, and Redwood Legal Assistance to provide collaborative support services.

Veteran's Services

The Veteran's Services program provides financial benefits, medical care, and counseling to eligible veterans and their dependents.
